Youth

Christ Church Youth Ministries

Christ Church Youth Ministries exist to inspire, empower, and celebrate youth, in partnership with their families, to develop a life-long identity in the body of Christ.

Our Values: Faith, Fellowship & Fun!

  • Faith – Rooted in the traditions of the Episcopal Church
  • Fellowship – Celebrating the different identities and personalities that come together to make the body of Christ
  • Fun – Living into the joy of the Good News of God’s limitless love for us

Whether in Youth Group or Sunday School, the principles of Faith, Fellowship & Fun guide everything we do. We strive to create spaces where our youth are celebrated for who God has made them to be, here and now. All races, gender identities, and orientations are welcomed, affirmed, and celebrated here.

Youth in 6th-12th grades and their friends are welcome to participate in the youth ministry offerings at Christ Church.

Youth Groups

Our Middle School (6th–8th grade) and High School (9th–12th grade) Youth Groups gather regularly during the school year over food, prayer, and a variety of activities, from bowling to escape rooms to overnights and rousing games of hide & seek. Our two groups regularly come together for ski trips and service opportunities in our local community. We also team up with youth from other Alexandria Churches throughout the year for special events. Contact Robbie for a full calendar of meetings.

Sunday School

Sunday School meets most Sundays of the school year (September–May) in Fowler House.

Our 6th/7th grade Sunday School program is a casual, discussion-focused survey of topics related to Jesus, the Bible, the Episcopal Church, and a whole lot more. Get to know Christ Church and your fellow middle schoolers better in a relaxing, welcoming group environment. And there will be snacks!

By 8th grade youth are ready (and often more than willing!) to challenge the assumptions they’ve been presented with until now. This conversation-based class creates a safe space for youth to do just that. Using the Episcopal Curriculum for Youth, we look at various characters from the Bible, as well as Saints through history, considering the ways their stories and choices resonate with our own as we respond to God’s call in our lives.

Confirmation is an opportunity for older youth to take on the promises made for them at their baptism and dedicate themselves to ongoing exploration of their faith. Through discussing who we are as a community of faith and action; deepening our spirituality and expanding our prayer life; reaching a greater understanding of Church history and tradition; and discussing the challenges facing the Church now and, in the future, we build on our existing faith foundation and learn new tools for growing in relationship with God. We also explore potential missions and vocations within the Church that can offer opportunities for greater involvement and leadership in our community of faith. The class culminates with a decision by each student as to whether to seek the Rite of Confirmation, all with much laughter, the free and open sharing of beliefs and doubts with trusted friends, and a lot of fun along the way!

Our Confirmation Class uses a local adaptation of the Confirm, not Conform curriculum.

Youth & Worship

Youth of all ages are encouraged to attend worship services as their schedule permits. In addition to the Fun of Youth Group and the Formation of Sunday School, nothing draws us together in our Faith quite like the worship of God together in community.

The first Sunday of each month, youth are invited to gather and worship together with their friends in their own pew.

All youth are welcomed and encouraged to take on leadership roles that best match their gifts in our Sunday worship, including as acolytes, readers, in our choirs, as intercessors, and as ushers. Contact Robbie if you’re interested in getting more involved.
