Giving FAQs

We are so grateful for your gifts!

Here we provide quick answers to your questions about each of these ways of giving, as well as other questions on giving in general.

Personal Check

  • Who should I make my check out to?

Please make your check payable to “Christ Church”.

  • How do I indicate what my check is for?

Please use the memo line to indicate if your contribution is going toward your pledge, or if you have a specific ministry in mind such as Lazarus, Music, West End Lazarus, Youth, etc. If you leave the memo line blank, we will put the contribution toward your pledge, or, if you have no pledge on file, toward the general operating budget.

  • My bank/broker/charitable fund is sending a check. Is that ok?

Absolutely! We will gratefully accept these types of contributions. If your bank/broker/charitable fund will not be including your name and designated ministry in the materials with the check, please drop the Christ Church Accounting Office a note to let us know you’re making a contribution and where you want it to go.

Text 2 Give

  • How do I sign up for Text2Give?

Text “Give” to 703-457-8889 for a link. You can also download these simple instructions or watch our short video.

  • How do I indicate what my Text2Give is for?

When you Text2Give, you’ll type a number and a keyword. For example, type “50 pledge20” to contribute $50 toward your pledge for 2020, or type “10 operating” to contribute $10 toward the operating budget. For a list of keywords, text “keywords” to 703-457-8889.

  • What if I make a mistake in my Text2Give?

If you realize your mistake within 15 minutes, you can text “refund” to cancel your gift. If more time has elapsed, contact the Christ Church Accounting Office at 703-549-1450.

  • Are there any costs to use Text2Give?

When you Text2Give, you are sending a text message to make a donation to support Christ Church. If your cell phone plan charges you to send text messages, then you may be charged for that message. When you donate via Text2Give, Christ Church does pay transaction fees; these fees are lower if you make your Text2Give donations by bank account rather than credit card.

Online Giving

  • How do I give online?

Visit our giving page, where you’ll select a fund to give to, and an amount. You can select more than one fund, and you can also set up recurring giving by creating an account. Recurring giving is an easy way to send in your pledge each month. Watch our short video on online giving.

  • Do I have to use a credit card to give online?

No, you can also use a bank account to give online. Once you select your fund and amount, you’ll be able to select “credit card” or “bank account”. If you prefer to use your bank account, simply enter your bank’s routing number, and your account number.

  • Is giving online secure?

Yes! Any personal or financial information you enter is encrypted using SSL security – the same state-of-the-art security measures used by online retailers, banks, and other financial institutions.

  • Do I have to create a giving account?

No. We do recommend creating an account so you can access your giving history and save your payment information. Note that to set up a recurring gift, you will need to create an account.

  • Does it cost anything to use online giving?

There are no costs to you to donate online. When donations are made online, Christ Church pays fees to process that donation. On our giving form, we ask for a voluntary 3% addition to your donation to help us offset the costs of these fees. If you make your donation online via your bank account rather than your credit card, the fees Christ Church pays will be lower.

ShelbyNext App

  • How do I access the ShelbyNext App?

From your iOS or Android device, go to your app store and search “ShelbyNext”. Download the app called ShelbyNext Membership. Once you sign in, you’ll be able to access the church directory, as well as give through the app. Download simple instructions.

  • How do I login?

The username and password for the ShelbyNext App are the same as your username and password when you normally log into membership online to view the parish directory.

  • What if I forgot my password?

Click the “forgot password” link in the Shelby app. You will need to enter your username or email address. If you don’t remember what username or email address you used to sign up, send an email to the Membership Coordinator for assistance.

  • Does it cost anything to donate via the ShelbyNext App?

There are no costs to you to donate using the app. When donations are made through the app, Christ Church pays fees to process that donation. If you make your donation via your bank account rather than your credit card, the fees Christ Church pays will be lower.

Pledging

  • What is a pledge?

A pledge is your way of letting Christ Church know your commitment to giving for the year. Pledging is a spiritual practice that comes from a place of gratitude. Each fall, we ask you to consider what kind of church you want to see, and to give to build that church. Make your pledge today.

  • How do I contribute toward my pledge?

You can use any of the four ways of giving to contribute toward your pledge over the year. Mail in a check, use Text2Give with the “pledge20” keyword, contribute through our online giving page (where you can easily set up automatic recurring giving), or give through the ShelbyNEXT app.

  • Does Christ Church receive diocesan funding?

No. Christ Church is part of the Diocese of Virginia, but the largest source of income is through pledging.
