Most of us have been uncomfortable at one time or another in our church buildings and some of us know about the complexity of issues that brings this about. Others know about how much all these repairs and maintenance cost. Still others know about technology changes in the past 60 years that make these systems more ecologically responsible, responsive to people’s needs, and cost effective. Every one of us cares about the historic significance of these buildings we cherish.

Our vestry has appointed a committee to review the heating and cooling of the church and Parish House keeping all these things in mind. This HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) committee includes a military engineer, a project manager, a corporate CEO, and architects (with specialties in historic preservation, commercial and public works), our treasurer, rector, and senior administrative director. Each of these people bring a different perspective and expertise to study and recommend to the vestry what plans should be made to make sure our buildings’ HVAC needs are well planned for and meet our needs in the future.

The committee meets every other week and we are putting in a great deal of time and effort. Please thank members Jim Arrison, John Burns, Jim Clayton, Michelle Cox, Will Edington, Braun Jones, Pierce Klemmt, Greg Lukemire, and Bill Usher next time you see them. I, and any member of the committee, will be happy to answer questions you have about the project.
