Bread for the World

For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’ -Deuteronomy 15:11

Advocate for the Poor

On Bread for the World Sunday, our preacher, the Rev. David Beckmann, President of Bread for the World, challenged our congregation to be in touch with our legislators to encourage them to draw a circle of protection around the poor which will cost little compared to the other items up for review in the nation’s next budget. More specifically, we can write to our Senator Mark Warner who has joined a bipartisan group of senators who have committed to work together with budget allocations in the defense of the poor. You can reach Senator Warner by clicking here to voice your encouragement and support for these initiatives. Christ Church is committed to using the resources of our faith not only during election season, but consistently voicing our concerns about the treatment of those who suffer. We hope you have a moment to write your thoughts.

Bread for the World Committee

This committee's purpose is to assist Bread for the World's national effort to strengthen Federal programs which reduce hunger both domestically and internationally. Members of the committee work collegially as they offer suggestions, contact members of Christ Church who may be able to help, and work cooperatively with others in the region to plan activities in the common effort to eradicate hunger. If you are interested in reducing hunger through federal programs, have contacts with Congressional or executive decision-makers, or simply would like to make a difference, please consider joining this ministry.
