A Statement from the Bishops of Virginia about the Charlottesville Tragedy

Posted by Meredith, August 15, 2017

On Saturday our hearts were broken. An angry group of neo-Nazi and fascist protesters came into Charlottesville, Virginia, armed and armored, looking for trouble. The violence and loss of life suffered in their wake signaled yet another escalation of the hate-filled divisions of our time. The peace of a beautiful university town was shattered. The images that some had of America were broken.

Where do you see God?

Posted by Meredith, June 22, 2017

The Communications Committee invites parishioners of all ages to creatively share your answer to this question: Where Do You See God? We will share your submissions on Welcome Sunday! Typically, we all have the chance to do things differently in the summer than in the rest of the year. This may include travel for vacation or mission opportunities, participating in Vacation Bible School, going to Shrine Mont, or being in community with neighbors for summer social and service opportunities. But it could even be a simple trip to the grocery store, a walk around your neighborhood, an afternoon at the local swimming pool, playing tourist in your home town, that affords an unexpected moment. Wherever you go, you’re quite likely to see God in your daily life. Take a picture that illustrates where you see Him, and email it to  by August 21. If you already have a photo taken since June 1 of 2016 that you realize fits this theme, you may submit that. Your photo must be a clear, high resolution photo. Use “original size” as the option when sending via smartphone. Please also include your name and a written caption or brief explanation with your submission to explain where you saw God. We will display your submissions during Welcome Sunday festivities, September 10, in the Meade Room. We may even use some of your submissions in printed or digital publications throughout the rest of the year!

Choral Evensong - April 2, 2017

Posted by Meredith, March 24, 2017

At Choral Evensong on April 2, guest organist Dr. Patrick Scott (from the Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta) will improvise in the French alternatum tradition. That is, members of the choir will sing to plainsong a verse of the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis, and then the organist will improvise the next verse. This movement back and forth between the choir and organ will continue until the end of each of these canticles. A winner of the 2014 American Guild of Organists Competition in Organ Improvisation, and a student of Dr. Gerre Hancock, Dr. Scott is recognized as one of the country’s leading improvisers on the organ. He will play a recital beginning at 4:40 and then accompany the service beginning at 5:00 p.m.
