The parish-wide SOUPer Bowl of Caring drive, led by the youth of the parish, collected 1,265 full-size toiletry items. This exceeded the youth members’ goal for the drive by 265 items!

Thank you to everyone who participated in this very successful effort. The toiletries will be used to stock our Lazarus Ministry Pantry which serves our neighbors in need. A special thanks to our amazing Youth Group who led this initiative and collected, sorted, and inventoried all the donations.

Background

During the week of January 25 through February 1, the Christ Church youth led a drive to tackle hunger and poverty issues in our own community as part of the SOUPer Bowl of Caring. They are participating with youth across the nation working to fight hunger and poverty around the time of the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 1. In time leading up to and immediately following the game, Christ Church youth requested parishioners to contribute full-size toiletry items (shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant) and/or monetary donations. The goal was to collect 1,000 items during the drive for our Lazarus Ministry Food Pantry.

Christ Church is working to impact hunger in the community throughout the year. Its Lazarus Food Pantry is open to Alexandrians in need one morning each week. Toiletry items were chosen as the focus for the drive this year because these items are necessities but are an expensive part of a family grocery budget. These items are not readily available from other charitable sources.
