If you have ever pledged at Christ Church, volunteered with the Lazarus ministry or donated funds or food, this is a story for you.

I have been the recipient of two very moving gifts from Lazarus guests this week. The first was a young man who came in and said, “Your church helped me financially at a time in my life when I was down and out. I have gotten back on my feet and I want to say, ‘Thank you’.” He then handed me an envelope with money as a donation to the Lazarus ministry.

The second gift came at the very end of the Lazarus ministry on Wednesday. All the volunteers were cleaning up and the last guest was coming through. She is a regular guest who is in a wheelchair and comes every week for food. As she left she said, “I don’t have any money but I want to give you a Christmas gift.” And then she opened her mouth and with a beautifully soulful voice sang, “Silent Night, Holy Night, All is calm, All is bright…” As I stood there listening, I thought, “I wish every person who has made the Lazarus ministry a reality could hear what I’m hearing right now.” As she finished, “…sleep in Heavenly peace, sleep in Heavenly peace,” there was not a dry eye in that room.

During this Christmas season, may you be blessed as you have blessed others.
