Holy Week is full of high drama revealed through the liturgies of the church.

As each day unfolds, we walk with the disciples through the streets of Jerusalem, gather in the Upper Room for a last Passover meal, pray and fall asleep in the olive grove beyond the Kidron Valley, follow the soldiers by torchlight as they drag Jesus across the Valley to the praetorium, wander bewildered while he is brought in before Pilate, listen to the raucous crowd clamor for the release of Barabbas over Jesus, wince as he is whipped and beaten, hesitate as he struggles to carry the beam to Golgotha, cringe as spikes are driven through his hands and feet, weep as the beam is hoisted on the pole overhead, cast our eyes away as he dies on the cross, huddle together to lift his body from the beam, struggle to carry his body to the tomb, slink away before the Sabbath comes, awaken in deep despair, creep to the tomb, stand in awe before the rolled-away stone and empty tomb.

The story of Holy Week is our story, a precursor to experience we have lived through with family and friends, experience that others will live through on our behalf. We encourage all members to partake of the liturgies of Holy Week, especially the Triduum, the Great Three Days—Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday—that we might see and feel, in a wholly new and personal way, the power and glory of these extraordinary days. Take the journey. --Rev. John Branson
