There’s a Job for Everyone in Our Christ Child Project

Each year during the Christmas season, our parish family makes a special effort to reach out to those in our community who struggle to make ends meet by helping families provide Christmas gifts for their children. Over the past two decades, members of this parish have generously donated gifts, money, and time to support this effort.

This year we will build and stock a Christmas store where families can select and purchase gifts for their children at greatly reduced prices. This model allows parents to select gifts that are appropriate for their children, and have the sense of pride from being able to purchase them. Our guests are able to spend $25 per child of their own money. For that, they receive $100 worth of merchandise per child.

Proceeds from the store are returned to the community for summer camp programs. In the spring of 2012, we donated funds for summer camp programs at Carpenter’s Shelter, Community Lodgings, and The Boys and Girls Club of Alexandria.

There are many ways you, your family, friends, and co-workers can participate in the annual Christ Child Project, our special Christmas store for the working poor:

  • Adopt one or more children and buy gifts, spending $100 per child. We hope to provide Christmas for 200 children of the working poor in Alexandria.
  • Make a cash donation.
  • Join the committee and have some fun.
  • Volunteer on Sunday mornings in November to help register families to shop.
  • Shop for gifts with donated funds.
  • Volunteer to help with the Ingathering of gifts on Sunday, December 2, from 8:30 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.
  • Help price items for the store, Monday, December 3 through Wednesday, December 5, 9:00 a.m. to noon.
  • Help decorate and setup the store on Thursday, December 6, 5:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Coordinate food for the volunteers for either the Ingathering of Gifts (December 2) or the Christmas Store (December 7).
  • Volunteer to pick up shopping carts from Ross Dress for Less on Thursday evening.
  • Help pack leftover gift items Saturday, December 8, 9:00-10:30 a.m.

Whether you can devote one hour, one day, or more, we welcome your participation in this all-parish Outreach program. Stop by the Christ Child Project table, outside church each Sunday, November 4 to December 2 and sign up to volunteer or click here to email Michele Smith for more information.
