Concert at Christ Church to Raise Funds for Alexandria Hunger Programs

Local artists with the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will use the power of music to fight hunger in the City of Alexandria by hosting a benefit concert at Christ Church.  Thousands of Alexandrians, perhaps as many as one in five, live in households struggling to make ends meet. Unfortunately, when it comes to deciding what bills to pay, some of these families are forced to reduce what they spend on food. For our homeless neighbors, emergency feeding programs are designed to offer meals throughout the week.  Emergency Food providers in Alexandria work together through food pantries and feeding programs aimed at supporting these individuals and families.

Join us on All Saints' Day, November 1, at 5:00 p.m. featuring Gabriel Fauré's Requiem sung by the Christ Church Choir under the direction of guest conductor, Michael Weinberg. A group of instrumentalists will accompany the choir. Members of Christ Church who have died in the past year will be remembered at this service.

The Fall All-Parish Meeting will be held Sunday, October 4, in the Church beginning at 9:00 a.m. sharp. A report on the year-end financials for July 2014-June 2015 will be available. Members of the Vestry and Stewardship Committees will discuss the budget and plans for 2015/2016. All members and friends of Christ Church are urged to attend.

Welcome Sunday

Come to Welcome Sunday at Christ Church on September 13. With special worship at 10:00 a.m., including baptisms, we will kick off the program year. Welcome Sunday will continue in the Churchyard from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. with a potluck picnic (see below for food suggestions). There will be games for kids of all ages and a face painter. For the second year, the Outreach and Mission Committees are sponsoring a cake walk! Tours of the historic church will be available. We will also enjoy the music of the RSVP Band! (In the event of rain, all events will take place in the Fowler House.)

Children’s Choirs!

The Canterbury and Cherub Choir rehearsals will begin on Wednesday, September 16th. Canterbury Choir is for children in grades 3 – 8, and Cherub Choir is for children ages 4 – 6. The Canterbury Choir sings each week for the Sunday service, and Cherub Choir sings the first Sunday of the month. New this year – if your child would like to participate, but cannot make the Wednesday rehearsal, please indicate so by checking to sign up for the Thursday rehearsal. If there are enough choristers, we will have two separate rehearsals each week to accommodate busy schedules. All are welcome to join the choirs, one does not have to be a member of Christ Church to participate. The more the merrier!
