The Rev. Canon Gideon Byamugisha to Preach on July 22

Please join us on Sunday, July 22 when the Rev. Canon Gideon Byamugisha will be our guest preacher. Rev. Canon Gideon will be attending the International HIV/AIDS conference, July 22-27 in Washington D.C. In 1992, he became the first religious leader in Africa to publicly announce that he was HIV positive. In 1996 he became gravely ill because he had no access to antiretroviral drugs.

Diocese Sends Cindi Bartol and Russ Randle to General Convention

The Rev Pierce Klemmt writes: I read a lot of material about the universe I work in. I’ve always got my eye out for good stories, uncommon results, and surprises. I keep my eyes on feedback, reports, trends, and vital statistics. One of the things I really like learning about is churches that do extraordinary things. Incidentally, under that category, our church stands out. I do not know of another congregation in this country that has the privilege of sending two of its own members to General Convention. This is unheard of and speaks volumes about the level of leadership here at Christ Church within the greater Episcopal Church.

Christ Child Project Benefits Carpenter’s Children

The Outreach Committee voted to distribute the funds from the Christ Child Project Christmas Store account to Carpenter’s Shelter, Community Lodgings, and The Boys and Girls Club of Alexandria. Each received $2,000 for summer children’s programs. This is a excerpt from the Carpenter’s Shelter thank you for the gift.

Fight Against HIV/AIDS in Uganda

In 2007, Christ Church's Friends of Mengo Hospital committee joined the fight against the HIV/AIDS epidemic sweeping Africa. Our church has a long relationship with Mengo Hospital, which is located in Kampala, Uganda.

Christ Church On-The-Go

A recent visit by Buck Blanchard, Director of Missions for the Diocese of Virginia, sparked some new thinking about mission opportunities – ones not so far away, ones that could be done in a day or two and ones that wouldn’t require great financial resources. Buck said that many times mission was “just being present with others”.

Strategic Planning Moves Forward Through the Summer

The Strategic Planning Committee worked through the middle of June drafting a vision for the future of Christ Church and developing an outline for a strategic plan, including four themes with high-level goals. Both the vision and the major goals of the plan were based on the common themes revealed in parish members’ answers to the Dream Big question in the recent parish survey.
