Did your travel plans keep you from joining us one Sunday? Regardless of your location, you can still read the preaching and teaching from the Christ Church pulpit. While we held services in the beautiful Auditorium due to lack of air-conditioning in the historic Church, the sermons were not  video-taped. July 28 Services & AC Forum

Come and enjoy the Sunday services at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 5:00 p.m. in the air-conditioned Auditorium. Many of us have enjoyed the family service at Easter as well as the intimate Christmas service offered in the Auditorium. Last Sunday, a very strong turnout enjoyed the camaraderie of the services in our temporary location.

Love Makes a Family

Throughout the month of July, we will host Love Makes a Family, an exhibit of photographs and interviews of families with lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) members. A community tea reception for the exhibit will take place on Sunday, July 21, at 3:00 p.m. in the Meade Room. The public and press are invited and welcome to attend.

July 4 Service

Please join us at General Washington’s church on our country’s birthday to celebrate and pray for our nation. We will sing a selection of national hymns from the hymnal, hear the Declaration of Independence read, and celebrate the Eucharist together. Independence Day Worship will start at 12:05 p.m., Thursday, July 4.

Three Sundays in July

Join us for three Sundays during July when we will worship at 10:00 a.m. using the hymns of three of Christianity's most influential hymn writers. On July 14, we will sing hymns by Isaac Watts, on July 21 we will use hymns by Charles Wesley, and we will end on July 28 by singing the hymns of Fanny Crosby. Additionally, our bulletins for these Sundays will include biographical information on these important writers.

First Same-gender Blessing

Historic Christ Church celebrated its first same-gender blessing on Sunday, April 21. The Rev. Ann Gillespie, Christ Church Senior Associate Rector, officiated at the service, “As an Episcopal faith community, we witnessed and asked God's blessings upon the lifelong commitment Melissa Capers and Brunilda Hernandez have made to one another. This is a significant and joyful event, not just in the life of Melissa and Bruni, but in the life of our church: as a congregation, we are taking a historic and faithful step closer to the inclusive, abundant, generous outpouring of God's kingdom.”

Outreach Sunday Panel on New Neighbors

April 14, 2013, is Outreach Sunday at Christ Church. We will celebrate the Outreach ministries that provide assistance throughout Alexandria to those in need. This year, the New Neighbors English Language Learners and Family Literacy Program, housed at Christ Church and operated by the Campagna Center is the highlighted program. A panel discussion  at 10:15 a.m., will include founder Dr. Jean Johnson, students, teachers, and Campagna Center representatives. Find out more.
