Taizé is an ecumenical community in France that focuses its ministry on reconciliation with Christ and the world. The community’s life is centered in a specific style of worship and prayer, in many languages, that form the basis of their reflection and action. Visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities visit the community to participate in their life and worship. Taizé worship is quiet and reflective, deeply peaceful and joyful, including four-part harmony chants, silences, prayers, and readings.
Taizé services are offered at Christ Church at various times during the year.
Choral Evensong is the service of Evening Prayer with choral music. It is sung in cathedrals with choral foundations on a more or less daily basis, and in many parish churches around the world. The Prayer Book of 1662 established the pattern for Choral Evensong which remains in common usage throughout the worldwide Anglican Communion.
At Christ Church, Choral Evensong is offered on the first Sunday of the month from October through June.
Nine Lessons and Carols
The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is a worship service celebrating the birth of Jesus that is traditionally followed at Christmas. The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus is told in nine short Bible readings from Genesis, the prophetic books and the Gospels, interspersed with the singing of Christmas Carols, hymns, and choir music.
Christ Church traditionally offers the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols the first Sunday of December at 5:00 p.m.
