The season of Easter always feels like the celebration of a new year to me because we cannot ignore the dizzying, liberating possibilities for new life that Christ’s resurrection holds for us. Brother Geoffrey Tristram, SSJE, said, as Christians we cannot escape the reality that “because He lives, we live also.” I wonder what resurrection looks like for you? What are you going to do with your new life?

Now We Wait

Growing up, Advent was a thrilling though exceedingly long four weeks. As a child, I eagerly counted down the days to Christmas, wishing the day would get here sooner. I’d learned that Advent was meant to be a time of preparation for Jesus’ coming, but all I knew was that time seemed to come to a halt each December. Christmas never seemed to come quickly enough. I had to wait.

Come and Play

Last Saturday, I found myself sitting cross-legged in a circle of adults, all of us on the floor of an immaculate elementary school classroom. It was around 8:30 in the morning. Way too early to be awake on a day off, let alone awake and sitting on the floor of someone else's classroom. I was beginning to think I should have, in fact, asked for that extra shot of espresso after all.

Epiphany

‘Tis the time of Epiphany when we of the church are called to “show forth” or “demonstrate” the faith that is in us. The news of Jesus' birth has been revealed first to the shepherds "who proclaimed all that they had seen and heard" to those who would listen, and then to the Wise Ones who traveled such a great distance from the East to see this newborn King for themselves.
