Christ Church is the Best

Posted by Chris, April 20, 2016

A young elementary school aged member of Christ Church wrote about Christ Church for her class assignment. Read the perspective from the eyes of a younger member of Christ Church. I thought I should share this because as the title states “Christ Church is the Best.

Does Your Spirit Need to Hit the Gym?

Posted by Chris, January 6, 2016

Starting each new year we say “This year will be different.” Many times we try to make our resolutions stick, however overly ambitious they are, and more often than not, we fail. We say, “I will read one book a week for this year.” Then we quickly fall behind when work, family, and new seasons of Netflix shows begin to tug at our time.

Collapsing Tables

Posted by Chris, November 25, 2015

Thanksgiving arrives this week and brings a bevy of different emotions. Many will bemoan the travel, the consumerist tendencies clouding the holiday, and snap reactions on social media about trivial “wars” on different holidays. I will travel to Knoxville this weekend to be with my wife’s family. The house will be packed with a family I dearly love. We thoroughly enjoy this time. Relaxing, catching up, watching football and basketball (go Kentucky!), enjoying the fall air, and being with one another as we break bread.

There's a Group For That

Posted by Chris, October 7, 2015

Christ Church is full of many types of groups. We have the Chancel Chapter, Liturgy Guild, One Sock On, SOD, etc. Recently I have taken on the task of revitalizing the 20/30 Vision group. This is a place for those that are commonly called “young adults.” I fit squarely in the middle of this group and I find it comforting to see others my age with an interest in Christ Church.

Back from Vermont

Posted by Chris, August 5, 2015

Last week Christ Church sent some youth, and a couple of chaperones, on a mission trip to Rutland Vermont through Youth Works. The programming by Youth Works was quite strong and well organized. The service sites, and relationships with various organizations, have been maintained by Youth Works for over a decade in Rutland. Christ Church was one of many churches serving with Youth Works during the week.

The Episcopal Church is in the midst of General Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Episcopal Church gathers every three years to review and plan for the future of the church. Various committees will meet about various items from Liturgy to Faith Formation.

Be a Tourist

Posted by Chris, May 27, 2015

Graduating from Virginia Theological Seminary last week brought my parents to town over Memorial Day weekend. When visitors come, I feel the obligation for them to experience Washington D.C. by visiting museums, monuments, memorials, etc. Even though they were able to see many of the area attractions, one of their favorite parts of the week occurred at Christ Church.

Ministry & Infrastructure

Posted by Chris, April 22, 2015

My time is starting to wind down at Virginia Theological Seminary as a graduating senior, and I will transition to full time ministry at Christ Church as a Ministry Resident. This also means my time will slowly come to an end working in the Center for the Ministry of Teaching. I like to think that the CMT is a hidden gem at VTS where some innovative faith formation work happens in the digital realm. We look at churches, dioceses, and organizations across the country for great ideas that need to be shared while simultaneously developing our own content on our various content platforms.

March Madness

Posted by Chris, March 16, 2015

As we exit the long winter, and begin to think of spring arriving, we come upon one of my favorite times of the year — March Madness. Growing up in Kentucky means I have blue running in my veins. The entire city thrives on college basketball, check out “The Sixth Man” documentary on Netflix to get a glimpse, and every conversation during March always has a moment where people discuss the NCAA tournament.

A Pilgrimage

Posted by Chris, February 4, 2015

This month I was able to take a class at St George’s College in Jerusalem, which is an enclosed campus housing the Anglican Cathedral with guest housing and diocesan offices. The class, The Palestine of Jesus, essentially followed the Gospels throughout Israel. Each day we saw something new at various sites while reading the corresponding part of the Gospel.
