The
Choirs of
Christ
Church
"Sing to the Lord a new song" Ps 96:1
The five choirs at
Christ
Church
share the responsibility of leading the congregation in worship on
Sunday mornings. All are welcome to join any of these choirs provided
that one can make the time commitment that a musical ensemble requires.
All choirs rehearse in the Fowler House Choir Room.
The Cherub Choir
This choir is for ages four and five and usually sings the first Sunday
of the month for the
9:00
AM
service. The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from
5:30
- 6:15
PM.
These young singers learn the joy of singing together while also
learning basic elements of rhythm notation and matching pitch.
The
Canterbury
Choir
The Canterbury Choir is for children in grades two through eight. This
choir rehearses on Wednesdays from
6:00 – 7:00
PM.
We use the Voice for Life curriculum published by the Royal School of
Church Music. Thus, children are learning elements of reading music as
well as learning important lessons about our faith. The standards are
high as we aim to offer our best to the glory of God in our music. This
choir sings every Sunday for the
9:00
AM
service as well as occasional other services including Lessons and
Carols. The choristers sing an annual Choral Evensong and will take at
least one trip during the program year.
The Seraphim Choir
The Seraphim Choir is for students in grades nine through twelve. These
choristers also utilize the Voice for Life curriculum and rehearse on
Wednesday evenings from
7:00 - 8:00
PM.
The Seraphim Choir often sings with both the Canterbury Choir and the
Gallery Choir. Like the Canterbury Choir, the Seraphim Choir
participates in singing Choral Evensong, Lessons and Carols, and
participates in an annual trip. The choir sings weekly for the
9:00
AM
service on Sunday mornings.
The Gallery Choir
The Gallery Choir is a mixed adult ensemble that rehearses on Wednesday
evenings from
7:30 - 8:30
PM.
The Gallery Choir sings music of a wide variety of styles. The choir
sings weekly for the
9:00
AM
Sunday morning service, as well as occasional Choral Evensongs and
Lessons and Carols. The Gallery Choir joins with the Parish Choir to
sing particular services (Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil).
This tight-knit group is especially ideal for parents who have children
that participate in one of the children's choirs.
The Parish Choir
The Parish Choir is a mixed adult ensemble with section leaders that
sings weekly for the 11:15
AM
service on Sunday mornings. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings
from
8:00 - 10:00
AM
. The music sung by the Parish Choir includes plainsong, Renaissance
polyphony, music of the Anglican cathedral tradition, and modern day
anthems. The choir sings Choral Evensong monthly in addition to various
other services throughout the year.
All choirs welcome new members. If you have an interest in participating
in one of these ensembles, Director of Music, at 703-778-4929 or

or you would like to try it as a new hobby, there's a place for you in
our choirs. Come and join with us as we make a joyful noise to the Lord!
